Risks of Cosmetic Eye Lid Procedures
Many men and women are unhappy with the appearance of their eyes and consider corrective surgery. If you are thinking of having any type of surgery, cosmetic or otherwise, you should first educate yourself about the risks involved in undergoing such a surgery. Just as with any type of surgery, there are risks involved in getting cosmetic eye lid surgery. Some of the risks involved in cosmetic eye lid surgeries or eye bag removal include hematoma, retinal detachment, and ectropian. Hematoma is a more serious risk that causes blood to accumulate beneath the skin. This is more apt to happen when more than one procedure has been done in a short amount of time. Retinal detachment may be caused by tears, holes, or imperfections in the retina. This becomes a problem when the retina is separated from the outer parts of the eye. If retinal detachment becomes a problem for you, you will need to undergo additional surgeries and procedures in order to correct it. Ectropian is a side effect and risk that will cause the affected area to "deflate" or droop. This problem may also require additional procedures to correct.
Less serious problems involved in cosmetic eye lid surgeries are scarring, itchy eyes, burning, eyes, watering eyes, swelling, bruising, tearing, and infection. These risks can more than likely be avoided as long as you follow any post-procedure instructions that your surgeon gives you. Take care to follow these instructions and the healing process will more often than not, go smoothly.
It is important to consider all risk of complication and injury before undergoing any cosmetic procedure. You should meet with several experienced surgeons before choosing the right surgeon for you. Do not be afraid to voice any questions or concerns you have before you undergo any eye lid surgery.
