History of Blepharoplasty

The word "blepharoplasty" was first coined in the year 1818 by a man named Karl Ferdinand von Grafe. The technique was then used for correcting deformities cause by certain types of cancer present in patients eye lids. We have reason to believe that even the ancient Egyptians began to do primitive forms of reconstructive surgery over three thousand years ago. Documents have been found that tell us how ancient Egyptian surgeons did skin grafts using skin from the forehead and cheek. They even did some facial reconstruction. Techniques and knowledge about plastic surgery, blood flow, and tissue matter grew and spread throughout several countries.

Though, during the Middle Ages, a ban was put in place to stop cosmetic and plastic surgery because it was seen to be unethical. In the first world war, we had to rely heavily on surgeons in life-saving situations and also for reconstructive and corrective cosmetic surgery. The techniques, technology, and know-how associated with cosmetic surgery and cosmetic eye surgery or Blepharoplasy has been growing, changing, and rapidly advancing every since the second world war.

Today, you can have an eye lid lift, an eye bag removal, or any other type of cosmetic eye lid surgery in less that 5 hours and return home in the same day. It is estimated that around 100,000 people a year get some sort of cosmetic or correctional surgery in the United Kingdom every year.
