Be Ready for your Procedure

Before you undergo your eye bag removal or eye lid surgery, you should make sure that you are thoroughly and properly prepared. First, you will need to schedule a consultation with the surgeon of your choice. During this meeting, you will learn about the of the procedures and details of the surgery. This may be a little jarring at first, but it is important that you understand what will happen during surgery so that you may voice concerns or questions that you may have. In some instances, additional procedures may be suggested. Do not feel pressured into excessive procedures, but do them only if you feel they are necessary. During the initial meeting, your medical records will be reviewed in order to identify any allergic reactions to anaesthesia or pain medication and to alert the doctor to any additional health problems that might complicate the surgery. If you have additional health problems, these can increase the risks involved in surgery.

In preparation for your surgery, you should reduce the amount of alcohol and nicotine that you consume. It is important that you completely refrain from taking certain supplements such as gingko, Vitamin E, ginseng, aspirin, and ibuprofen. Taking such supplements against the warning of your surgeon can cause excessive bleeding and can increase the risks involved in your surgery.

The day of your surgery, wash your hair and clean your body to help prevent infection. Also, it is important that you arrange for someone to drive you home for the surgery site. You may want to have this person help you once you have arrived home as well. You will want to have acetaminophen, surgeon-approved eye drops, ice, and gauze on hand when you are home. Ice packs and acetaminophen will help to reduce swelling and minimize any post-procedure pain.
